Assessment

On receipt of your Screening Questionnaire, I will go through your answers and reply to you within three working days.

If your answers indicate that there is likely to be a neurological basis to your child’s problems then I will suggest that we proceed with an initial one hour consultation.

This is done together with your child and will take place at the Isbourne Holistic Centre, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. The cost for this one hour consultation is £80. Details of how to find the Isbourne Centre can be found on the Location page.

Your child should wear loose and simple clothing, like shorts and a t-shirt.

During our hour, we will go through your answers to the Screening Questionnaire and I will do a simple assessment of your child. This assessment is non-invasive and uses standard neurological tests for active/dynamic and static/still balance and for three of the early primitive reflexes.

Depending on the answers in your Questionnaire and the results of the simple assessment, we can discuss the INPP programme, if this is appropriate, and ‘where we go from here’. (You can find more information on the INPP on the Therapy page.)

The Full INPP Assessment

If it is found that your child’s issues are due to immature reflexes, then before a treatment plan can be put together, a full assessment needs to be done.

The assessment involves examining so-called gross and fine motor skills again using a series of standard physical, non-invasive tests for

  • balance – static and dynamic
  • coordination
  • quality of actions such as hopping, crawling, repeated movements
  • the developmental stage of primitive reflexes and postural reflexes
  • eye examination – how do the eyes work together
  • visual/perceptual examination – how does your child see

The results of this assessment make it possible to gauge how mature the nervous system is and to see where your child is, developmentally. With this information, an individual exercise programme can be set up for your child.

The INPP programme is a movement programme which specifically addresses the presence of immature reflexes by providing exercises appropriate to the level of developmental maturity. This allows your child’s nervous system a ‘second chance’ to develop as it should have.

The programme is tailored to each individual, so it is not possible to give specific details here of the exercises involved. However, your child is required to do supervised simple movements, either on the floor or sitting, slowly and accurately for five to eight minutes at home every day.

You will need to come and see me for a review of your child’s progress every six to eight weeks. On average the programme takes one year to complete.

The cost of the full assessment and a written report on the results of the assessment is £350. Like the initial consultation, this will take place at the Isbourne Holistic Centre, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Details of how to find the Isbourne Centre can be found on the Location page.

Further information on the costs of therapy and the structure of the exercise programme can be found on the Prices page.
