JIAS assessment / reviews

An initial assessment must be done before an individual is put into the JIAS programme. Baseline information, such as a case history, the filling in of questionnaires (by parents and/or school if the client is a child) and a discussion are undertaken prior to the initial consultation.

At the initial consultation, an audiogram is done and tests for laterality, coordination and language. In small children or those with attention deficits, sitting still to have an audiogram may be too difficult. This does not mean that the programme is not suitable or possible.

All or any of the information ascertained at the assessment is used to customise the download.

A review is done every eight to ten weeks when the many of the tests done at the initial consultation are repeated. This is to assess changes and to provide the information needed for the next download.

On average, five downloads are used in the course of one programme.
